As for the OP, I'd like to make a shirt that has "Jesus loves the little children..." on the front and "Unless they make fun of prophets (2 Kings 2:24)" on the back.

However, I would assume that most progressive Christians in the US see the OT as a mere foundation of their standards and as such apply any number of justifications to deny such verses any true merit or necessity in today's culture. When I joke with my still-Christian wife about OT verses like Deuteronomy 21:18 (which says to stone rebellious children), she simply rolls her eyes. I doubt spotlighting such verses do much to sway the majority of Christians in this country.

The OT (or what I saw as its incongruent connection to the NT) was one of the reasons I stopped being a Christian, but NT verses might be more effective. Of course, if your only intention is to "piss believers off"...then I guess that's your right. I'm not sure such a shallow and antagonistic response is necessary.

I must remind myself of that too often. Trust that I'm "preaching" to myself as well. No offense (or shallow antagonistic response from my end) is intended. :notworthy:

And what is curious is that this is in the most "Jewish" of the Gospels, Matthew. It seems like Matthew was a rather obnoxious "Jew for Jesus" who wanted to put down his fellow Jews who rejected Jesus Christ.
