I'm not sure when the first case was diagnosed...I wonder how rare it is?
Good question. |

I'd add that there is a power and control element as well.
This is not to say that I didn't have fun, for a time. Or that I didn't love her, I truly did. It just got way, way, out of control. When she started to realize that I was drifting away from her, she pretended she was pregnant to try to trap me. This led to the one and only panic attack I've ever had. She used to say that I was the only guy that had been able to satisfy and keep up with her. I used to say that satifying and keeping up with her was killing me and that should tell her something. Nymphomania sounds great in the Hustler Letters, but IRL it is a living hell. That gives us some insight into it. |

Here's what wikipedia says:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nymphomania It does not mean sex without pleasure. It was interesting to read that nymphomania is no longer listed as a specific disorder. |
For some reason I can't make heads or tails of this post
![]() I did not expect anyone to. Nymphomania may sounsd great to a guy initially, but take it from King Rat and my friend....it's probably going to be a living nightmare. You are talking of sex addiction, not nymphomania. Nymphos are delightful. Sex addiction is not a good thing. I've read stories about men with sex addiction who were so out of control that they had sex with the coin return in a public soda vending machine...the loss of control can be that ridiculous. And also of others who were so addicted to it that they abandoned all safety measures and wound up with AIDS. Once again, this is sex addiction and not nymphomania. |

Maude Lebowski said it means sex without pleasure :
WHAT DOES SHE KNOW ? Sex addiction is sex without pleasure. Nymphomania is sex with pleasure. |
It'll give you a day to a month that you'll bask in the rest of your life, and an undetermined period of hell that you'll cringe about for the rest of your life. If you know when to get out it could be good. But few get out unscathed.
There are probably a few whore-Madonnas out there that can keep it at home and enjoy it *a lot* AND can keep it in the relationship and aren't humping the mailman. But I think that's a tougher order to fill and something short of "mania" probably. The horny-crazy types generally come with a price of one sort or another. But who wants how much and how often and who inititates and on and on....can be complicated in any relationship. If they're crazy it's worse. My impression is your description fits female sex addicts, not nymphomaniacs who are quite capable of loyalty to their man. As a matter of fact, that is the norm. Unless you really piss them off. |

Getting better, Angyson, but it's still not working.
Try putting this at the end of each quote:
Then you'll have it. And seriously, dude, take a breath. |

I wonder if they abandoned using nymphomania as a term because it's hard to determine what an "excessive" libido is? I wonder if the term was originally colored by the gender roles of, say, the fifties, and what was generally considered morally decent, etc.
Sex addiction starts to imply that the need for sex is starting to interfere with normal life in a harmful fashion. By Angyson's definition of nympho, well hell, i'm a nymphomaniac (well, whatever the male version is called). Ok, it looks like this is just a matter of differing perspective on the definition of the terms. Nothing more. |

Such women do have themselves under control, and they can live without for quite some time.
It only becomes a problem once they get started, then the hunger only becomes more. And they suffer as much as their sexual partners do. Also do not all pressurize their partner/counterpart, but realise when he's given all he has and leave him in peace then. I agree 100 %. I don't think a man could even spot such a woman in real life, since they don't behave or act in any sexual suggestive manner. Just like an alcoholic usually doesn't advertise his problem either. I disagree. I can spot them across a crowded room. And I have over and over again. I am rarely wrong. |
