Why start with Joseph anyway? Secularists start with the Creation and Adam and Eve, and all their debunking follows on from there. Pretty straightforward.

You should note that nowhere in traditional Jewish sources or teachings is it stated that the Israelites had anything to do with building the pyramids anyway.

got christian friends making the claim that the story of Joseph was written in hieroglyphics of the great pyramid. also making claims that the exodus really happened. I point out research and they refuse to believe it. though the Joseph claim I don't know where to find references debunking that.

I don't think there are any hieroglyphs in the great pyramid, except maybe some construction notes in hidden areas.

Maybe they are referring to the Famine Stela?

There was a guy in a yahoo group that said that elef (hebrew, thousand) was an Egyptian word for pyramid gang.

That "solves" the problem of the 2 million Israelites because you can divide the 600,000 men by 1000 and get 600. Of course it is a disaster theologically, the various half shekel censuses, become dubious, etc.

You have to move the Exodus back to 1800 BCE to have this work, and then there is the little detail that slaves probably didn't build the pyramids anyway. It's not like they wouldn't hire free men because of government paper work and pension costs. There are various technical reasons that 1800 is dubious also.

So, you thought he if he wasn't real, he must have been faked?
