Talking Egyptian lawyer to sue for Exodus Jews' plunder...

...no, seriously. As seen on the II Newswire:

The article.

A delightful morsel:

Quote:
An Egyptian lawyer said today he was planning to sue the world's Jews for "plundering" gold during the Exodus from Pharaonic Egypt thousands of years ago, based on information in the Bible.

...

The relevant passage from the Bible, Exodus 12 verses 35 to 36 reads: "The Israelites had done as Moses told them; they had asked the Egyptians for jewellery of silver and gold, and for clothing ... And so they plundered the Egyptians."
And my favorite bit:

Quote:
Tareq Zaghoul, a lawyer at the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights in Cairo, said it would be difficult to prove historical fact in the passage that would stand up in court.

"This needs historical documents and evidence to back it up. It is rather far-fetched," he said.
(emphasis mine)

If the courts agree with Mr. Zaghoul, then I'd love to see what sort of spin a McDowell or a Strobel could put on it...

Maybe: Evidence That Didn't Quite Pass Muster... But We Assure You That You Should Believe In It Anyway ?

Well, maybe the Jews will just counter-sue for the years of slavery their ancestors were forced to endure.

I think plans to sue for Egyptian human rights violations are in the works! Andf what of Egyptian thievery?

I would suggest that Egypt also be sued for stealing Solomon's golden shields and all sorts of other plunder from Rehoboam (1 Kings 14:25 ), not to mention the small matter of the murder of Josiah!

this sort of Egyptian claim has been brewing for years. Just so no one thinks I'm anti-Egyptian, here, I will let them have the final word:

. . . and the Amelekites or whatever can try to prosecute for war crimes. . . .

Some people just have too much free time.

This is the absolute in hypocrisy, considering that Muslims deem the Bible to be a corrupt, unreliable text.

Apparently the Bible is reliable enough to sue Jews over ancient history.

This is fan-frigging-tastic! It's win-win for non Abrahamics! Because if the Jews win, then the Bible is officially declared unreliable in temporal matters. If the Jews lose, then everyone suddenly starts suing each other over Biblical atrocities, and the utter insanity of the Biblical religions get exposed to everyone in the world as they've never seen it before.

While the thought of such a suit caused such a reaction in me that I probably scared the people across the hall, I doubt it will ever come to court. In all likelihood it'll get laughed out of court.
