I have just purchased Greek for the Rest of US. I hope to start class as soon as possible.

I'm not suggesting one has to go there or that a subforum shouldn't be set up here. Just that one could also find some helpful info over there when working on their greek. |

Peter,
I hope you will permit lurkers because I can't commit to the time requirements until the summer. Then I'll do a summer school/independent study while rereading the thread. |

Yes, I welcome any degree of participation in the group study.
In order to solve the quandary of where to put this "class," I have created a Yahoo! group for Group Study of Ancient Greek. My wish is that people from several different forums/lists will come together for this class/seminar/study. So I invite you all to join up (either to the mailing list of the Yahoo! group or to the "RSS feed" [or both]) and to invite others to join up. Please do so soon, to increase the head count, so that I can approach some people with good Greek experience who can write responses to some of the questions that pop up. best, Peter Kirby |

The only problem with yahoogroups is that I don't think it can handle Greek characters very well.

You are right, Toto. I couldn't find a way to enter Unicode Greek on the Yahoo! Groups. (Get with the times, Yahoo!)
I will have to use some kind of web interface or other. One obvious solution is just to use threads in BC&H. I kind of like that idea because it would get a lot of attention from people who otherwise wouldn't go looking for it (this being a board with a diversity of readers). If it is justified, the threads could be put into their own subforum later. This is also not controversial; anyone can open up threads in BC&H, and this is a relevant topic. The downside is that some people might want to follow just these few threads or might not want to be on an "Infidels" board. These include some of the people who would have the best knowledge of koine Greek. suggestions, comments? best, Peter Kirby |

Maybe a sub-forum of this forum would be better, no? That way the relevant threads would be grouped together.

Yes, a subforum of BC&H for multiple languages (ancient, maybe foreign generally) seems to be the consensus-building position. I volunteer to be a moderator of such a forum, if it is created.

Once again, if IIDB won't allow it, it's either my forum or Kirby's.

Definitely do count me in. I have been learning Greek on LittleGreek. I am past the alphabet and just learning how to crawl.
One thing I have been worried about is how we will learn the pronounciation? What do you need volunteers to assist with? |
