Default Greek subforum discussion: Split from "Studied Greek?"

I've actually just recently finished Mounce's _Basics of Biblical Greek_, and have previously worked through _Greek for the Rest of Us_, and was thinking it would probably be beneficial to go through them again--I tend to outpace myself and work faster than I probably should. Something along the lines you've suggested would be excellent, at least for myself.

Thanks for the comment, Rick. I know that I already have something going with the Gospel of John book study, but I feel as though I might have jumped into that too soon, and with two heavy a reliance on secondary sources. What I want to do beforehand is to be able to read basic Greek so that analyzing a sentence takes five minutes instead of an hour (for example). I think that it would be great if others learned along with us. Just be warned (as one to another) that "a little Greek is a dangerous thing" .

Is anyone else interested?

And can we find someone (or some people) to lend their expertise to such an exercise? (I bet we could if I announced this to b-greek, but first we should have a certain number of people 'registering' to know that it will be worthwhile.)

Oh, and if I've hijacked Roger's thread, feel free to split this off.

best,
Peter Kirby

FTR, I think a Greek subforum is a great idea. I would only suggest that it be open to other languages as well (esp. Hebrew, Aramaic and Latin).

If IIDB won't do it here, I'd gladly do it on either one of my forums or maybe we can do a yahoo group? I'd go for a forum personally...

Yes, I would be most interested in this Greek class idea, professor Kirby.

If it is okay with the administration of IIDB, I support having a subforum here. I suggest that it would be temporary and for Greek only. If we want to do another seminar on Latin or another language, another temporary subforum could be opened up for that. If a temporary forum is not okay with IIDB, we can set it up as a Yahoo! group and/or at another forum (or in a temporary forum at my site). I volunteer to be a moderator of a temporary Greek forum. I would want to recruit another mod or two with good Greek.

The two books (or at least the first two) would be the Mounce titles mentioned. This is also the text used at Claremont, besides many seminaries, so it is expected to be good. (Suggestions for how those without a book can participate?)

Peter Kirby
