Default end of law

In a disgussion with my mother going into the vagaries of mixing fibers she found out that all of the old testement law is null and void according to at least some christian teaching. anybody have any idea how I can get her to understand that the rest of it is no good too.

If she likes to read then there is always Doherty:

http://pages.ca.inter.net/~oblio/home.htm

You can go for the web page first to get the gist of the Doherty thesis. Then get the book.

That would be a decent historical Biblical criticism approach.

Could you clarify what you are looking for? Do you need to persuade your mother that the rest of the OT law is also null and void, or that all Christian teaching is null and void?

How likely do you think that a person who reads only christian books and the bible is going to read doherty.

All christian teaching using just the bible and christian books.

Extremely unlikely. Based on my experience you cannot make the smallest dent in such a person's worldview and would better spend your time doing something else.

if people (generally) derived belief from (whatever they use as) scripture, you might have a chance - but the reality is people (generally) choose their scriptural interpretations based on their beliefs. if, eg, you are specifically talking about fag-bashing, the only realistic way to get her to look at the infamous Levitical passage differently is to first get her to look at gays differently.

actually, the O.T. law is not null and void according to Jesus.
I believe it is in like Matthew chapter 6 or 7.
"Do not think I came to abolish the law, but to fullfill it; not the least stroke of the pen shall dissapear from the law until all is fullfilled; therefore if anyone disobeys one of THE LEAST of these commands and so teaches others-he will be called LEAST in the kingdom of heaven'
so accordingly those evangelicals better get stoning them homosexuals and cuttin the hands off of their women if they try to dfend their husbands, etc, etc, etc,et,cet,c,e,tc,etc.

Preferably all christian teaching is null and void. Sorry it has been so long since I last visited these boards that I forgot that I had already answered this question.
