Fair enough, I stand corrected.

Doesn't the Hebrew use a he/she pronoun ever when referring to Satan (or 'the satan', depending on the book)?

Pervy:

We get serious after the "move." Anyways, I am not Hebrew savy sufficient to answer your question--is the "Ha" or "The" of "The Satan" in Job a masculine article or not. From what I have read, "Satan" as a figure has not been characterized as female. I do not know if hidden in the OT a female is called a "satan/$tn" or "obstacle."

Seems to be a running gag in Britain to make fun of Belgium, because the French would whine too much.

As Toto points out, even the angels are guys. Aside from the "virgin" Mary, who has limited powers and is not recognised by all the protestant sects, all the major players are male. I am sure that the Holy Spirit is male, has to be.

Androgyny just doesn't work for my idea of Satan. Too wishy-washy. I cannot imagine any midevil theologians concieving of Satan in such a way.

Women may seem evil but men truly are evil. A chick can piss you off, but a guy will cut your throat. Sure there are some killer females but how many times do you look over your shoulder when two chicks are following you as opposed to two guys? Way off topic here for Satan but after all this is "Elsewhere".

It is great to be in the basement. I feel a sense of accomplishment. Thanks, moderators.

It's a certain misogynistic archaic interpretation, and is probably closer to the truth than they realise. The Satan-Snake concept was derived from the Fertility-cult conflicts experienced by Judaism at the time of the Genesis conception, so the symbol revered by the fertility cults for their Goddess (the snake) became the symbol of evilness for the misogynistic pigs. Same goes generally for women. In the societies they were battling for land and resources for, women were far more equal, and in more positions of power, and kept the society strong. To prevent this infecting the "pure" Judaism, women were subjugated to non-human status, being more given to Satanic evilness, consorts of the Satan-snake, etc etc etc and all that bullshit.

Mel and co probably buy into a modern Catholic form of this (psycho wankers).

Not all the angels are men. There were female Angels, and some became male over time. Gabriel, and more importantly, the very ancient form of Lilith, were two high-ranking female angels. Of course, shit happened, and they were changed/fell/erased etc. There is a kind of modern ideal of androgynisation of angels, brought about through a side-effect of the feminised ones depicted in the medievil and Raphelite fantasies and a desire to de-sexualise them.
