Female Satan. Is this biblical?
I heard that in Gibson's flick, that Satan is a female. I have never heard of the Princess of Darkness, only the Prince.
I do realize that Midevil Catholic theology envisioned females as a creation of Satan but never heard that Satan was female. This seems like a big deal and there hasn't been a lot of talk about it. Is this not a major contradiction of biblical patriarchial tradition? If Eve was seduced and brought evil into the world by the actions of a female Satan, then things are all convoluted. It seems to be an enormous alteration to concieve of a female tempting christ and then gettin him killed. A female! Has not Gibson taken a great liberty here? Sure females are sinful creatures according to catholic theology, but that they are the leaders of the kingdom of hell is a new idea. |

It is certainly not biblical. Satan is not a big character in the gospels. He "enters" Judas in Jn to cause the betrayal. Other than that he tempts Junior in Mt-Mk-Mt with Mt and Lk expanding the details.

Cannot be true, they are never horny enough [Right! Stop that!--Ed.]
Anyways, it actually a nice conceit. Nothing I am aware of specifies the "sex" of Satan. It is assumed that he is "he" in texts such as Job, but "a Satan" is an obstacle and women can be obstacles. In fact, they can be obstructive, shrewish [Right, enough!--Ed.] --J. "All Alone on a Saturday" D. |

I believe the Satan in MG'sP (and in Sister Emmerich's visions) is supposed to be androgynous.

Hence many of the worlds problems--Holocaust, assassinations, Middle East, Belgium--may be explained by "time of the month." --J.D. |

I know that midevil theology allowed for the devil to change forms but the forms seemed to be absolute ones such as an animal. It is hard to think of a he/she Satan. |

Some of these observations about women just may reveal whether Satan is female or not. |
