Christ(Chrestos) of Alexandar Janneus' time(100BC)
Hello friends,
One kind man advised me to put my question here. Since I have limited access to materials here in Japan,I would like someone to please help me learn more about the Christ(Chrestos) of Alexandar Janneus' time. Do some scholars think that the "Chrestos" in 100BC was the originator of many of the verses attributed to the "Christ" of Herod's time (4 BC).? Are their any descriptions on how and when he died? Your comment on this matter is appreciated. |

Possibly related, possibly not
Yea, some scholars find a connection.
Did Jesus Live 100 B.C.? by G.R.S.Mead My personal speculation is that the Jesus of 100BCE is the historical Jesus behind the myth, but I'm not anything of a scholar. The reality is that it's very hard to make connections between the Talmud and Christian writings. It's not clear if a particular 'Yeshu' in the Talmud was totally unrelated to Jesus, a caricature of Jesus, or a model for Jesus. I've seen all three points argued here, and argued well. Jesus was a common name of the time, so it's to be expected that a few would be mentioned in the Talmud. The Talmud was codified well after Christianity's origin, so it would be easy for Christian ideas to contaminate any historical traces. Or, just possibly, there really was an early Jesus that became some sort of prototype for a new cult. |
