Default How much of today's Bibles say what the originals said?

I look forward to reading comments from readers.

Ok, if a supernatural being inspired the writing of the Bible, how can we be reasonably certain that the Bible writers always, or usually spoke for God and not for themselves?

Whatever you meant by your original question, I wasn't expecting this follow up. Goes to show that you ought to ask!

This is Biblical Criticism & History. It's generally a premise in Biblical Criticism and in History that writers don't "speak for God." Within a Christian paradigm, even, if the biblical writers spoke for God, there would be no need for the Word of God made flesh; we would already have the Word of God made paper. And, within an atheistic paradigm, there is no God. In other words, your model of biblical authority is a bit off base for this forum.

kind regards,
Peter Kirby

Unless Christians had the presumption that the Bible is God's word, why would they want to discuss it? I still do not understand what most skeptics at this forum are trying to prove. What are you trying to prove?

Trying not to speak for them, they might say that the Bible is man's attempt to record the work of God in salvation history, and work out its implications for human life.

We can discuss without investing our ego in trying to prove things.

The way I understood the OP,Johnny wanted to know how faithful to the original documents is the translated version we have available now?

But that is debatable to a point...

Now, Johnny doesn't like to take prisoners, so he went to the question, how much of the Bible teachings and ideas come directly from GOD and how much is the creation of the writer's minds?

There is no debate there, unless you believe there is a God...But then to win that debate you would have to prove there IS a God...

He tried to sneak that by Peter, but hello?

*This has been an advisory of your friendly board*

Ok, carry on...
