Default 10,000 jews in Five weeks?

OK, here's a new one: "Based on the evidence of his resurrection, more than 10,000 Jews had become his followers within five weeks after his crucifixion, even though conversion required a revolution in their deeply held theological beliefs and cultural practices."

This is from an OP/ED in today's Birmingham (Alabama) News. I wish I could link to the entire article but only a small portion of it is on the web. But this particular claim caught my eye. I don't recall reading any claim of 10,000 Jews being converted within the month before Jesus went back "home."

I looked through my bible but couldn't find this reference.

Does anyone know?

Would they answer an email?

Unless they are attempting to add up some numbers from different places, I have no idea. Are they considering the 4 and 5 thousand who were fed? Are they taking the 3 thousand mentioned in Acts (after the "5 weeks")?

The only other thing I could think of was 1 Co. 4:15: "Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel."

But this would have been after the "5 weeks", and it could likely be a "generic" term or idiom for "many".

I have no idea.

The author's email is wmdsloan@bellsouth.net

But if you can pick up a copy of today's Birmingham News and read the entire article before sending him an email. I'm working on a Letter to the Editor to rebuke his testimonial.

The Book of Acts says that there were only 120 believers about that time.
