Default A Great Post that Deserves to be Enjoyed Here

If any of you have debated any topics over at www.Apologetics.org, then I believe you may have had some experiences there like mine. I’ve been roasted alive with insult after insult, and another member there finally spoke up and made some excellent points, in my opinion. I hope you don’t find my posting this reply here as too self-serving, but I really wanted to share it with the members here at Infidels because it was so good, in my view. It gives us all a really good look at the mentality of fundamentalists, and “Fred was very adept at quoting their abusive comments and responding in such a way as to illustrate their cruelty and hypocrisy. I hope you all find it enlightening.

Hey! Will someone slow this beat-'im-up bandwagon down long enough for a guy to climb aboard? I've been trying for days to muscle into the "sh*t-on-Jag line. I've got some super nasty shots for him that you professional Christian gunslingers just won't believe! I mean, you ain't seen nothin' yet! You think things like these unforgettable lines are clever???

(1) "I doubt any sound Christian here still thinks that Jag is anywhere near lucid enough to voluntarily change his mind. And I use the word 'mind' very losely."

(It's "loosely," by the way.) I'm just curious, but what would an "unsound" Christian be?

(2) "Your delusions of grandeur are getting sadder and sadder."

Yeah, personally, I've been all choked up reading this thread.

(3) "I find it silly to post such nonsensical statements such as the one you just wrote."

Ah, nothing like a good, well-thought-out argument!

(4) "You aren't particularly smart or well versed."

Translation: I have no idea how to refute your argument. You scare the hell outta me.

(5) "Or take this bit of stupidity..."

It's always cool to drip a little poison into the well prior to attempting to refute something.

(6) "How stupid can a person be? You make an idiotic claim..."

Wow! A new record!! "Stupid" and "idiotic" within eight words of each other! The pros make it look easy, don't they?

(7) "It doesn't take a woman to see that Jagella is a joke!"

Yeah, personally, I can't think of anything funnier than a man who's suffered one of the most difficult blows that life can deliver. I mean, if that ain't absolutely hilarious, what the hell is???

Boy! This kind of "Christian" love is one beautiful thing to see. Never-th'-hell mind what Jesus said about turning the other cheek, or doing good to those who hurt you. Hey, that "go-two-miles" routine was nutty anyway, wasn't it? Sic 'im, Fang, rip his throat out!!! Yeah, that's the ticket!!

I've watched you "Christians" in your feeding frenzy mode a few times since I've been here. And I always get the same feeling -- a little sick at the raw hypocricy. You oughta be really proud. I'm sure the lurkers -- particularly the younger ones who might be on the fence -- will be duly inspired to become "meek and humble of heart." But, unfortunately, whenever you have a pile-on, you become less and less credible in your self-righteous defense of your religion based on love. Hate the sin; love the sinner. What a mockery you make of that sentiment.

And the bitterness thing: What the hell does the treatment of Jag, in this thread and others, reveal about you paragons of virtue? I can tell you this much, you can't answer that question as long as you have that log in your eye because you can't see the answer. But it says a hell of a lot more about you than the target du jour. As if any one of you could even begin to imagine with any certainty what would happen to you or your religious beliefs if you were to end up in a wheelchair. Woe to you, blind guides...

And in the most ironic contrast, the difference in tone between Jag's posts and those of his attackers is striking. The former is, for the most part, measured and relatively calm, while the pack mentality of the saints among us is reminiscent of chow time in the shark tank.

But don't let me hold up the wagon. I'm stepping out of the sh*t line now, so someone else can have a chance. I mean, fair's fair. Oh, just one more observation: Judging from the tone of his posts alone, in terms of character, Jag has given many of his attackers a seminar.

Jag,

If you read this, I suppose you'll be embarrassed. But I didn't mean this to indicate that you needed defending. But when I see the boys in action -- four or five or so -- attempting to deliver the "death of a thousand cuts" to one person, I get a little riled...

Best,

Fred

Some may have been given pause, but i suspect that most dismissed or ignored it. Consider the analogy of going to a NASCAR fan forum and question why (insert crewchief here) was fined for cheating. Nevermind the question, the implications exist in the minds of those who respond. Projection.
