Default History Channel Special on Anti-Christ

Anyone else see this one today? I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the people (over half) interviewed were mainstream biblical scholars. The mainstream view that the author of Revelation was writing for contemporaries and referencing contemporary Roman events was given slight preference over other views.

There was also an admission that one of the Epistles to the Thessalonians contains prophecies that the apocalypse would occur in the lifetime of those to whom it was addressed. The narrator explicitly states that, "These prophecies were not fulfilled."

This is way better than I've come to expect from History Channel shows dealing with the Bible. I think we should give them a Gold Star

Is this the one where Russia has been set aside and the Muslims are now being typecast as the evildoers who will bring the anti-Christ man to power? Then it drifts off into the Nostrodumbass prophecies?

I give it a thumbs down for scare tactics.

Nope, not that one. It's more of a survey on what different groups believe about the Anti-Christ, and it's pretty neutral (or as neutral as they can be without alienating the masses).

The History Channel seems to have gone from being the Hitler/Third Reich Channel to the UFO/Ghost/Bible Prophecy Channel in the last few years. I guess dollars are their bottom line. More people are interested in woo woo stuff than being actually educated.

I wonder how long it will be before History Channel shows like How the Earth Was Made are no longer aired in favor of more Biblical science. After all, History Channel panders to those who love to fall for sensationalism.

It was especially amusing watching the disgraced Ted Haggard expounding on all these End Times/fundy delusions.

An article from Jan 3/LAT explains the History Channel's new direction:

Quote:
Since taking over History three years ago, the young executive has sought to recast the network in Technicolor. To do so, she's undertaken a provocative strategy: severing the cable channel's tether to the past.

Once referred to as "the Hitler channel" for its seemingly endless stream of dusty World War II documentaries, the network now crackles with modern-day adventures, many in the guise of unscripted shows so common now on television. Big-rig truckers brave the frozen tundra in "Ice Road Truckers," while the brawny loggers of "Ax Men" dodge falling timber in the Pacific Northwest.

History's newest hit is "Pawn Stars," a flashy "Antiques Roadshow" set in a Las Vegas pawnshop. This year, the network will introduce "Top Shot," a reality contest that will pay $100,000 to the marksman who can best replicate the aim of Annie Oakley and other famous shots. \

Even its more sober-minded specials have taken on contemporary topics, some still raw to recount. In its Emmy-winning 2008 documentary "102 Minutes That Changed America," the network documented the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in real time through amateur footage. A companion piece, "9/12: The Day After," is set to air this year.

That "102 Minutes" documentary was pretty good.

But there's not much History on History any more, that's for sure.

Ancient historical research reveals that the very first person on planet earth to have been awarded the "Anti-Christ" medal (by Christians of course) was none other than Arius of Alexandria. That is, Arius was the first person in the literature record of ancient historical sources to have attracted this term to himself from multiple "Christian sources". I would be interested to know whether this history channel special on the anti-Christ mentions this fact, or the name of Arius of Alexandria, however I would guess that this fact is as yet beyond the research capabilities of the people involved in the ancient history.

But, the character called Jesus of Nazareth was the "Anti-Christ" of the Jewish Christ.
