How many contradictions are in the Bible?
I was wondering how many contradictions there are exactly in the Bible. I've noticed up to 486 contradictions. Are there even more?? I reason I would like to know is because I am starting a blog devoted to the critical study of Christianity. If you know of any books/links that presents a ton of Biblical contradictions (none refuted yet), please let me know! Your input will be highly appreciated.
Thanks. |

This is a bigger subject than you seem to think. You have a lot of reading in front of you if you want to cover the topic.
First of all, note that the existence of most contradictions is only an argument against Biblical inerrancy. Most Christians are not fundamentalists, and do not expect the Bible to be inerrant. I recommend reading some of Don Morgan's writings here in the II Library, especially Biblical Inconsistencies I would also recommend the writings of Ferrll Till. He has published a magazine devoted to the question of Biblical inerrancy, The Skeptical Review. You can look at www.skepticsannotatedbible.com (not the .org - that's Jason Gastrich's commercial project) - which is an attempt to annotate all of the Biblical "problems." But you need to read it critically, and just use it as a start. |

Be forewarned. There is no "contradiction" that has not long ago been "explained away" by an inerrantist, even if that means twisting the truth and logic past all common sense and reason to do so.

An exact number cannot be given. In many cases it is a matter of opinion or interpretation whether two passages are logically consistent, and reasonable people can have different opinions or interpretations.
