The Da Vinci Code
Well, I was just watching CNN and they had a little peice about The Da Vinci Code. The christian world seems to be up in arms because of the novel. Ive read it, and it does rap on christianity pretty bad. However, it IS a work of FICTION! Anyway, the novel suggests that Jesus was married with Mary Magdeline and had children. As well as Constantine forcing the acceptance of Jesus as being a divine figure. The christians on the show said that their is no biblical evidence that this is true, and that this marriage businesss is based on the gospel of phillip which they say is not reliable. Of course, I think the whole thing is funny because the BIBLE IS A WORK OF FICTION. Anyway, does anyone have an thing suggesting The Da Vinci Code is right or wrong. Of course this is all going on the assumption that Jesus existed, which is a point of debate in itself on this forum.

It's pure fiction, not to say that it is less credible than the Bible.

I was doing a search for Christian literary agents (don't ask why) and found a forum with Christians going off the handle about the Da Vinci Code (poor old Da Vinci doesn't deserve this publicity). Apparently, weak fiction constitutes 'pornography'.
I stole a pirated e-copy and wow. I'm offended, but only because it sucks. At least the Bible is plausible (if you've thumbed through the Da Vinci Code you'll get the joke). |

What were they calling "pornographic"? The thought of Jesus Christ getting it on with Mary Magdalene?

I suppose. Could've been worse. Could've been gettin' it on with Beloved John. Now THAT Da Vinci could get behind, I bet.

I was not as impressed with the 'Code' as I was with his earlier work 'Angels and Demons', but I did enjoy the 'Code' nonetheless.
There is a small school of people who believe Jesus was married, but the arguments are not as convincing as Dan Brown makes them sound in the book, and of course, he did not present any rebuttal. It does not take much searching to find several websites that are only too happy to 'correct' some of the misconceptions in the book but I think that the overall response of many Christian groups has been hilarious! |
