If it makes you feel any better, The Book of Mormon is the sorriest excuse for a holy book that I've ever read, and was so clearly written in the nineteenth century that I'm amazed there are any Mormons at all. Its take on American prehistory makes Velikovsky look reasonable by comparison.

In addition, Dianetics is a complete load of shit.

It's especially amazing that the book of Moron was written in King Jimmy English instead of 19th century English. I realize that most 19th century Americans probably thought thee and thou were holy language, but I would have expected god to know better.

"King Jimmy" indeed! When I read the book of Mormon, it was obvious written in some 19th century dude's version of Elizabethean English. Pretty annoying effect, I felt.

And it came to pass that I tried to read the Book of Mormon, and it came to pass that I couldn't even get ten pages in, so woefully was it wrought in the English tongue by the hand of Joseph Smith, and lo, it came to pass that the Book of Mormon was thrown at the wall.

("And it came to pass" indicates a passage of a considerable amount of time. Unless you're Joseph Smith, in which case you appended it to the beginning of any sentence you felt like, often at random, because it sounded grand.)
