Default Well, that sure didn't take long.....

.....I see that Elisha the Newbie is now calling for the moderators to delete Steven Carr's postings, for:
  • giving specific details when and were Turkel / Holding has switched positions and contradicted himself; and
  • pointing out the other ancient claims that never were debunked by Holding's band of roving skeptical investigators; and
  • alleged "off subject allegations" - evidently, detailing internal inconsistency and factual inaccuracy is "off the subject" when it comes to christian apologetics

Whenever fundies can't deal with their heroes being shot down, you'll soon hear the cry, "Send in the censors! Send in the censors!"

^ The above doesn't mean you'll be censored, just exercise good judgement. Name-calling and condescension is so passe, anyway. Might wanna leave it to the Christian apologists.

Kosh, your statement about Tarmac's quality of linked arguments is famous!

I'd like to help you out, but I just don't have the time. I've got two projects going in the woodshop right now, and my oldest son is having problems focusing in school, so I have to deal with that.

You're doing great though. I sure hope that doctor outfit Elisha is wearing was a Halloween costume. It'd be scary to think that someone with those reasoning skills would be allowed to cut people open....

Paul's comments in Galatians 1 are interesting

6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

So obviously somebody was lying and some lies were believed.

Notice that Paul says to condemn and ignore anybody who tells people differently from what he tells them.

So if Paul was telling false stories, how could they be debunked?

Debunkers would be at once condemned and ignored.

I'm still hoping for some kind of official "term" for this sort of protection mechanism. Brainwashing? Manipulation?

Perhaps we need a logcial fallacy for it?

Argumentum ad Preemptivous Strikus

Or is it simply poisoning the well proactively?

Interesting. Is there scholarly precedent for this? If the church back home at Jerusalem made few extravagant claims, and those were borne out of evangelization efforts and missionary embellishment 500 miles away instead, there would be no reason for anyone to take issue with the church at large.

It's not easy reading. It's not the subject matter, it's his style. He's, uh, verbose.

(he's the likeable Irish priest you always see on the DSC and History channel specials...)
