Default Has Anyone Read Georg Schelbert's Abba Der Literarische Befund Vom Altaramaischen ?

I happened to stumble upon this quite by accident. http://books.google.com/books?id=0MD...remias&f=false

Of course it is in German (is there any other language that intelligent discourse is conducted?). Too bad for these scholars that their works cannot be read by anyone outside of Europe. I can't believe that this hasn't been mentioned more. Surely the question of what Abba means is central to Christianity. It's over a hundred bucks. It is quite interesting though.

blurb in English
Quote:
...

According to the NT scholar Joachim Jeremias, the singularity of Abba as a form of addressing and designating God is based on the origin and character of the way little children address their father, and it was therefore not an acceptable means of addressing God in prayer. His explication was widely accepted by theologians, biblical scholars and preachers. An examination of the use of Abba within most Aramaic and Jewish Hebrew texts seemed necessary. The study shows that Abba should be identified with the word "father" without any specifically childlike connotation, as demonstrated by the oldest quotation available and its Greek translation Abba ho pathèr.
I think that the last time the "abba" question came up, someone posted an argument to this effect.
