How the belief founded in the seventh century AD protect its adherents from the venereal diseases of the twentieth century:
“Note that Muslim population growth maybe driven by other factors than their choice to have more children. Because Muslims are not as promiscuous as the rest of the human race they have largely avoided AIDS. While there is some danger that most of a generation in some sub-Sahara countries will die of AIDS, the rate of infection in Muslim countries is typically less than one in a thousand adults. If large numbers of non-Muslims die of AIDS and Muslims do not then the precentage of the world's population that is Muslim will increase.? http://www.geocities.com/richleebruce/b/islam.html Was it possible for a person like the prophet Muhammad to have known that venereal diseases like AIDS will invade the human race and prescribe the preventive measures about fourteen centuries back? No one, including Allah, knew about AIDS fourteen centuries ago. The commands against promiscuity do have an effect of stopping the spread of AIDS. But guess what? There are other sexually transmitted diseases. And have been throughout history. Allah's laws against promiscuity were obviously intended to protect against them.
I do give credit where credit is due though. AIDS is, of course, rampant south of Allah's Islamic bloc, but controllably rare everywhere else. Even American gays are in nowhere near as much danger. And the reason for that is that his Muslims practice their code of fidelity well enough to keep AIDS out of Asia and Europe. And I have no illusions that if it did get into Asia and Europe, it'd be only a matter of time before the Americas were infested with AIDS too. That's the situation. Allah is a mad tyrant; of the many gods who are currently striving for world domination, he's the one whose rule would be the least desirable for everyone else. But his realm is indeed a buffer to keep that accursed HIV from sweeping the world. And that genuinely is something that the non-Muslim world should be grateful for. |

I'm not sure UAE is a great example of how Islam protects against AIDS, since the number of prostitutes is fairly high here.

Has anyone did a proper study regarding AIDS in Muslim countries? A link from geocities is really not that convincing...

Given that in some Muslim countries adulterers can be stoned to death/beheaded/imprisoned and also that males keep very tight control of 'their'* females it's not unusual that AIDS rates should be lower in these countries. Vicious enforcement of tyrannical laws does not mean that people in these societies are more moral; just tyrannised.
*I'm not trying to be sexist here, just indicating the attitudes of patriarchical societies. Dunc |
