Default Conservative Scholarship - Critical Scholarship, by V. Philip Long

A recent article at Biblical Interpretation on the conservative/critical divide, with reference to the so-called minimalist controversy.

best,

One interesting point in the article is how Lemche and other 'minimalists' wish to claim the tacit support of James Barr's clasic work 'Fundamentalism' for their critique of Provan and others.

In 'History and Ideology in the Old Testament' Barr has made clear his serious reservations about the 'minimalist' project and his partial agreement with Provan on this issue.

Thanks for bringing this up Peter. V.P. Long is one scholar I very much respect (but disagree with), and think Lemche went overboard in his criticisms. Among other things, I'm trying to review one of his longer essays on the historiographical controversy... Argh.
