If only Jesus had had the knowledge and breadth of reading of JP Holding, he would not have come up with such a bizarre metaphor, urging Christians to be vicious fighters.

They had metaphorical lexicons in the first century CE? What, and did Jesus consult one of these when coming up with his admonition?

Seriously, did Holding really say that? Really?? And was he serious?

Oh yes. I don't have the reference at hand right now and I couldn't locate that particular one with a brief scan but here's a similar one. It's the last post on the page, #16:

Found it
Doves Are Dangerous
He admits to doves being a stereotype (for peace), but he's found some links to breeder's websites that indicate they sometimes squabble. No shit. Perhaps he can find a link to a serpent breeder showing how wisely they invest in the stock market.

So basically he's saying that Jesus didn't mean 'peace doves' in the stereotypical sense, only you'd have to be a dove breeder to appreciate the fact. Nice one Jesus. I expect wolverines were on the tip of your tongue there but doves just blurted out. It gives a whole new meaning to the beatitudes. "Blessed are the dove breeders, for they know what motherfuckers them meeks are".

The dove story isn't surprising. JPH's response to Elisha and the bears mouling the youths who were making fun of him is that the youths taunting Elisha with "Go on up bald head..." was actually a large, dangerous band of gangbangers (in their 20s) threatening the life of Elisha and the rest of the town. The bears killing of the kids was therefore justified and of course, God's will.
