Thom Stark reviews Is God a Moral Monster?
I saw John Loftus link to a 300p review of "Is God a Moral Monster?" by Thom Stark: Is God a Moral Compromiser?
Except for one place where he seems to talk about "fundamentalists" on the either side of the theistic question, he seems to be spot on. I just found this amazing, Thom points out this passage on WLC's site: Quote:
According to Craig's site the guy who wrote this is dr. Richard Hess, professor of Old Testament and Semitic languages at Denver theological seminary and "is an expert in ancient Israelite religion." Absolutely amazing. |

In deut 32.9 the Hebrew Masoretic text has: "sons of Israel" and the Greek translation LXX has "angels of god."
Our oldest Hebrew manuscripts (the Dead Sea Scrolls) have: "sons of god". This professor "of Old Testament and Semitic languages at Denver theological seminary" and "an expert in ancient Israelite religion" seems to think that "the Hebrew" doesn't have "sons of god" and that you have to get that reading from the Greek translation. He seems to be unaware of the Dead Sea Scrolls version of this very famous passage. |
