It's the first really large, pre-Herodian structure that's been found in Jerusalem. It's not just pre-Herodian, but pre-Israelite (~1700 BCE).
Since it's too old to be sensationalized as possibly having any Biblical connection, it probably won't get that much attention, but it shows that the Canaanites had some pretty sophisticated engineering. |

Yeah, but Warren's Shaft was a century older and doing the same job ( providing access to the water source in case of a siege.) Why are there two structures doing the same job? That's the interesting part.
