Kersey Graves's Sources?
Has anyone had any success in tracking down any of the sources for his book, The Sixteen Crucified Saviors?
I've thought a bit about it, and I have a speculation: that he was working from missionaries' tracts that attempted to prove that Jesus Christ had been mentioned in other religions. Thus all those crucifixions. |

Your speculation was speculated by hinduwoman at the end of this thread: 16 Crucified Pre-Christian Deities, but she never came up with an exact reference.

FROM the Infidels (Atheist) network:
http://www.infidels.org/library/hist...16/index.shtml Note: the scholarship of Kersey Graves has been questioned by numerous theists and nontheists alike; the inclusion of his The World's Sixteen Crucified Saviors in the Secular Web's Historical Library does not constitute endorsement by Internet Infidels, Inc. This document was included for historical purposes; readers should be extremely cautious in trusting anything in this book. A critique from Richard Carrier here: http://www.infidels.org/library/mode...er/graves.html Propaganda and falsities can come from any side! Best regards, Bernard |
