What is the WORST book in "The" Bible?
From a bad moral and ethical lesson viewpoint, what is the WORST book in "The" Bible? Why do you think that?

For me, Job.
God lets Satan kick the crap out of the guy, to see if he'll curse him. God knows he won't do this of course, but allows all of his sons and daughters(the original party animals) to be killed. After this and other calamities, Job passes the test and actually gets 7 new sons and 3 new daughters refunded to him. |

Job is pretty bad. I'm not a personal fan of the legal lingo of Exodus-Deuteronomy. A lot of the laws I find outdated and in some cases morally reprehensible.

Job is a compelling work of literature, if nothing else, compared with the sheer boredom of something like Numbers.
Which book of the OT has the most kill-the-pagans stuff in it? That would get my vote. |

Numbers has some good narrative in it -- the Balaam pericope, the Korach/Dathan/Abiram rebellion, the daughters of Tzlophchad, etc. Leviticus is probably more boring. I'd say overall the Book of Ezra is pretty boring and is probably the most boring single book. The first 10 chapters of 1 Chronicles is extremely boring.
As for the New Testament, I find the entire collection boring. |

Esther is surely the worst.
The glee over killing as revenge is more pronounced there than in any other book. |

Esther is a great book! Along with Jonah I'd say the very best in the Hebrew Bible.

Genesis. It contains the flood, simultaneously the single most brutal massacre in (alleged) history and the single most pointless waste of life (it was a complete failure).
It also contains the killing of Sodom and Gomorrah, the debauchery of Lot's daughters, and lots more primitive barbarism. |

And now, would you like to say which book of the Bible you find most morally reprehensible. We get your ideas on which are boring, and thank you for making them known. But we'd like to talk about which books of the Bible provide the worst moral lesson. |

By Job! You've got it!
Job:
"God" makes a bet with the "Devil" that Job loves him. "God" tortures Job, kills his animals, his wives, and his sons. Loyal Job 'prooves' his love for "God" and he passes the test. No problem, "God" replaces eveything and everyone. Job gets a brand new shiny wife, etc. Morals learned: Betting good Betting and causing harm to others good. Murder to proove a point, acceptable. Murder may be undone if you replace the victim with a substitute. Women are like cattle, easily replaced. "Facts" learned: "God" has an equal, the "Devil" whom she/it/he needs to impress. Un/intended consequences: A person asks another to proove their love. (usually at a drive-in movie in my teenage years) Job is a great starting point should any Believer want to discuss "The" Bible with you. What would Jesus ("God" or at least 1/3) do? See Job. |
