First Pictures of the Architectual Remains of the Martyrium of St. Mark
We are now attentively studying the architectural element raised out of the sea at Chatby. I am only allowed to release the information bit by bit. I can say that two capitals are definitely early Byzantine and very probably were part of the martyrium of St. Mark. I have drawn parallels with other similar elements from early Christian Churches. I hope to post some of the pictures tomorrow once I get the okay from the team.
Our efforts have been limited for the time being at just proving that we have found the location of the original martyrium. In April we will hopefully be able to raise larger structures out of the water. I hope to have lots and lots of pictures then. Anyway, more to follow ... |
