Default Greek for "Unbeliever"

The Gospels and Paul in particular refers to those not Christians as "unbeleivers." Although many are uncofortable with this word, it appears in all the Bible translations I've seen. What is the Greek word most commonly translated as "unbelievers?" Is it "anathema?"

Without knowing the exact verse you have in mind, I would assume that the Greek word or "unbelievers" is APISTOI (ἄπιστοι) (e.g. at 1 Cor 6:6, 7:15, 10:27, and 14:22).

Exactly what I was looking for. Much thanks. BTW, what would be the nominative singular?

Default believer/unbeliever

Are not all open minded persons both believers and unbelievers?

Concerning religion in its innumerable manifestations, I am an unbeliever.

Concerning Evolution, I am a believer.

Concerning geocentricity, I am an unbeliever.

I do not believe that the Earth is flat. But then, how do you define "flat"?

We exist in a strange environment. But can you conceive a less strange environment?

Very interesting to know. Are you thinking of a user name?

anathema means "cursed", if you wanted to know.

FYI: Jewish tradition has equated Amalek (I just liked the "q" variant in spelling I happened upon at one website) with atheism and it is my understanding that he was granted the status of Demon Responsible For Unbelief. There is also the added bonus of thwarting the Lord's command that Amalek be forgotten.

I found a great site which might be of use to you...

http://www.foreignword.com/Tools/dic...Q&submit1=+Go+

When you go to a specific greek word, it even brings up a table with the number of occurences of it in each book of the NT, and you can click on them further to see each and how it was rendered in the NAS.
