Images of JESUS
This has probably been threaded several times . BUT how or when did the image of JESUS transmorph into a beautiful Caucasian looking male with brown or golden hair as depicted in so many European churches and biblical paintings and Pieta s by the masters et al.
If he had been a true gentleman of the Jewish faith circa 33 AD surely he would have looked more like Yassar Arrafat than George Clooney. So why or when did it become unfashionable or untenable to depict him as being of Middle Eastern appearance ( police blotter lingo ). |

Jesus supposedly lived in Galilee for about 30 years but his FATHER was NOT from EARTH. The IMAGE of Jesus is described in the NT Canon. Colossians 1.12 Quote:
Now, outside the NT Jesus had another speculative image. "Against Celsus" 1.32 Quote:

From WIKI's Depiction of Jesus
Image Caption reads: Late 4th century mosaic of Christ as a teacher (traditio legis), drawing on classical images of philosophers Image Caption reads: Christ as Emperor, wearing military dress, and crushing the serpent representing Satan. "I am the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6) reads the inscription. Ravenna, after 500. NOTE The snake might also realistically represent the dominant pre-Constantinian religious cult of Asclepius, the major temples of which Constantine utterly destroyed c.324 CE |

. . . because Jesus keeps coming and coming as "the way" wherein he dies on the cross (SIC) so that eternal life can begin. Jesus is a 'local' much in the same way as Mary is a 'local' except that Mary is 'imago of man' and Jesus is the 'image of the imposter' that is left behind.
I should add that they are locals throughout the ages in Christendom and therefore culture specific wherein Mary is the perfect image of mortal beauty and Jesus the sum-total of sinners. |

Ugly don't sell.
Americans in particular have a very good lookin' Jesus. I think at times he also waves a big American flag and carries an M16 strapped to his back. A friend and I where I used to work once mentally constructed a movie script where American Jesus makes his 2nd coming, but this time he's coming to KICK SOME ASS. |
