Default Oded Golan to be formally charged next week with forgery

Israeli Facing Charge over 'Jesus Brother's Box'

Quote:
A spokesman, Jacob Galanti, said the indictment against Oded Golan contained several charges, including forgery.

Uzi Dahari, the deputy director of Israel’s Antiquities Authority, said six others would also face charges in connection with the case.

. . .

Galanti said prosecutors had to act now because some of the artefacts seized during the investigation would have to be returned to their owners unless charges were filed by January 1.

Ever since I read about the debunking and exposure of this hoax, I wondered what would happen. Cool.

Discovery and Acquisition

July 1979: the French paleographer André Lemaire visits the shop of a Old City antiquities dealer in Jerusalem, who invites Lemaire to return another day to see a small inscribed ivory object. Reportedly over a cup of tea, the dealer shows Lemaire the tiny pomegranate. Lemaire photographs the ivory and publishes it two years later in the Revue Biblique.

1984: the popular magazine Biblical Archaeology Review (BAR) publishes an English version of Lemaire’s article, the pomegranate thereafter instantly attracting worldwide attention.

An interesting story on the discovery of the fake "Brother of Jesus" artifact was included in this book: Secrets of the Bible; Archaeology Magazine, Hatherleigh Press, 2004; ISBN: 1-57826-172-4

I am assuming the original story was in an edition of Archaeology magazine, but it didn't say which one (at least I didn't notice it).

Just provided for FYI.

Who says there is no Bible?

Do you have a point? Do you have some sort of evidence or argument that the ossuary is genuine? If so let's hear it. If not, what's your point?

Thumbs up That Pesky Ossuary

Looks like charges are finally being pressed against Oded Golan (& others).

Israel Charges 'Jesus Box' Relics Ring with Fraud

Quote:
"This was a multimillion-dollar crime ring, and the suspects can expect to serve many years in prison if convicted," Kleiman said.

**snip**

The 27-page indictment contains 18 counts, including fraud, attempted fraud and obstruction of justice.
Stand by for apologetic spin and lots of ear covering "Lalalalalalalalala." I can't imagine how the people who still believe the thing to be real can reconcile stories like this in thier heads. Must be pure cognative dissonance.

Default Golan, Deutsch indicted

http://www.boston.com/news/world/mid...quities_fraud/

'The forged treasures include an ivory pomegranate touted by scholars as the only relic from Solomon's Temple, an ossuary that reputedly held the bones of James, Jesus' brother, and a stone tablet with inscriptions on how to maintain the Jewish Temple, officials said.'
