Little help with Greek please?
For fun and skills improving I tried reading some better-preserved letter on ancientlives.com (recently mentioned: http://www.freeratio.org/showthread.php?t=304730 ). I found this nice letter: http://talk.ancientlives.org/objects/AAL138113
This is what I managed to get from first 3 lines: (I am not sure if my transliteration from greek is correct. omega is W, chi is CH, eta is H) MAXIMOS OFELNW TOI T?MIWTATW CHAIR?N KALW?POIHS?SACH?T?BALO I can't decipher 2nd letter (and also 2nd last) letter in 2nd line. It has left-facing arch, horizontal line, and downward line on right end of horizontal line. Is it epsilon+iota, or eta, or? |

Yes, I think it is an epsilon-iota. That's one regularly connected pair. Another is alpha-iota as in KAI.
Here's my transcription, (C = xi, X = chi, H = eta, W = omega) Code:
MACIMOS OFELNW TWI TEIMIWTATW XAIREIN KALW?POIHSEIS METABALO MENOS |

Thanks a lot. I didn't know epsilon-iota is an often a connected pair. I also "skiped back" reading third line, your "metabolo" seems correct of course.
