Christians are a funny lot. You guys call Jesus an asshole and basically prove it and not a peep from Christians. I ask whether any of them ever had erotic fantasies featuring Jesus and they scream bloody murder. At worst, mine was a compliment implying that Jesus was usually portrayed as good-looking.

Well see I don't believe he had any magic powers, so if there were a real Jesus, I think the fig and dog stories are fake, and all the other miracle stories and "I am God" stories are fake. Even as fiction though, he's not such a bad guy. Healing and raising people from the dead makes up for a lot of assholery. If he can cure my shingles, he can call me a dog anytime.
The main thing I don't like about the Jesus portrayals is all that egomaniac "I am the way" stuff in John. Yet, if he really were the God, he probably should be allowed to have a mammoth ego. Anyway, I can't judge him so strictly. I can be a dick myself at times. |

Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ would have been a better movie if it had included that bit of dialog:
Priest: So,ahhh, how much for you to give up Jesus? Judas: Thirty pieces of silver. Priest: Thirty? Rather cheap don't you think. Judas: Maybe, but the guy is an asshole. I didn't think you go higher than that. Christmyth |

The text is there to fulfill the prophesies. He would be annointed as King.
Judas did his part to fulfill the prophesis too. So they are all part of the game. Like puppets in god's hand. Not a god well made, a cruel god. We are in true image of god, behaving like he inspire us. Killing the enemies and such stuff. They have a biggest sin in the bible. To make a sin against the spirit or how they word it. Could it be that the biggest sin is to admit they made it all up. The biggest sin is to be aware of that we made god in our image? |

I've always found this story a curious example of Jesus' "humble compassion"...

As for proving Jesus was an asshole...I guess if you accept the kind of scripture quoting that flies in conservative christian circles then yes, it's proven. If not then a couple of cherry picked and undiscussed stories may not really do it for a person. A person may take a look at some of the other stories and and the context of the stories and decide differently. As for why christians are ignoring this thread, read the above paragraph again. If this were a serious contention I trust the people here enough to have bothered to make a solid case. Dosn't seem worth a fight. Of course, if the discussion were, "Paul is an asshole," I'd join right in and agree! |
