Religious artifacts sequestered from the public
I recall seeing a documentary a while back which incidentally touched on this theme, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was that was being kept hidden.
Is anyone aware of any contemporary cases of religious artifacts being held from scholars or the public by church authority? Are there any famous or well known controversies in this vein that exist in the present or am I just imagining it? |

Well, the main controversy for some years were the DSS. However, thanks to some persistent scholars they have (I think) all been published now.

Yeah, the DSS were the first thing that came to mind, yet I had a sneaking suspicion that there was something else... no?

Do you have more information (preferably not spurious) on this? Anywhere I can read up on it?

There are urban legends about all the stuff the Vatican supposedly has hidden away in their vaults. It would not surprise me, but as far as I know there is no evidence to support anything like this.
I checked Snopes -- and apparently the Vatican is said to have the world's largest porn collection! (Only it doesn't.) |
