Is everybody in agreement that Mathew was indeed the author of the Gospel according to Mathew?
No. The near universal agreement in scholarship (even Christian scholarship) is that he was not.

By the way, my source is the DAKE'S ANNOTATED REFERENCE BIBLE by Finis Jennings Dake.

No I don't. I just wanted to leave the whole question nice and simple, so that we would not get distracted from the issue of the dating of Matthew. But since you raised authorship, start on that and I will join in if others dont.

If the Gospel of Matthew was not written by Matthew, then who did write it?

If we don't know who wrote it, does that mean Matthew must have written it?

It means you don't have to know who DID write something in able to determine that someone else did NOT. I don't know who wrote Homer's epics, but I know it wasn't Abraham Lincoln.

Are you kidding? If Matthew didn't write it, it was still written, no? Therefore, someone else must have written it, if Matthew didn't.

Sometimes, I just don't get people's attempts at arguments around here...
