rescripts
Has anyone gathered the imperial rescripts together?
(Formal replies of Roman emperors to written apologies from christian authors). There must only be a finite number asserted to have been, shall we say for the sake of the uninitiated, historical? Who has an official rescript web page or list? Thanks in advance for pointing me at it. Best wishes, Pete Brown The Authors of Antiquity Thesis: RELATIONAL vs HIERARCHICAL HISTORIOGRAPHY. |

I am just looking for stubs of research.
If anyone can advise further stubs .... NOTE: I should have called the thread by the following heading: REGISTER OF PRENICENE IMPERIAL CONTACT WITH CHRISTIANITY. ========================== 1) [067] - Nero? ========================== Purported references to christians. 2) [081] - Domitan "Persecution" ======================================== 3) [XXX] - Plinius, Ep 10:97 - Pliny to Trajan ======================================== Covered in a number of IIDB threads and in Jay Raskin's "Evolution of Christs" 4) [XXX] Trajan to Pliny (rescript_ ============================= Covered in a number of IIDB threads and in Jay Raskin's "Evolution of Christs" 5) Trajan's order of the Martyrdom Ignatius ============================== "Not universally admitted to be an historical fact" ---- George Long. 6) Hadrian Rescript to the pro-consul of Asia ============================== Presented at the end of JUSTIN's FIRST APOLOGY. Extant. Where? <<<<====== TEXT? 7) Antonius Pius to the commune of Asia =========================== Presented at the end of JUSTIN's FIRST APOLOGY. Also in Eusebius (HE 4:13) Is this the same as .... 8) M.Antonius (Rescript) =========================== Also in Eusebius (HE 4:13) See above??? Quote:
9) 174 - M.Antonius (Report to Senate re: "Thundering Legion") ============================ Letter is not extant, even Eusebius could not find it. However there is a letter in Greek addressed by M.Antoninus to the Roman senate after this memorable victory. It is sometimes printed after JULIAN's SECOND APOLOGY, thought totally unconnected. Cited by George Long to be "one of the most stupid forgeries of the many which exist". Thanks for any additional information. Best wishes, Pete |

I actually did a study of Imperial correspondence for my Roman history class. It drew few comments then, but perhaps I need just to format it better. regards, Peter Kirby |
