To say it is symbolic is to deny the essence of man after which man is created and actually is re-created to be formed (iota argument anyone?).

When the NT writers fabricated the NT, they searched the OT for material.
If God is master of the seas, sun, moon, etc, it only seems logical that Jesus could walk on water. So that's what they wrote.

Oops, God is not master of the seas, sun, moon, etc. At best the Lord is and they are not the same. Besides, to give the sun for light is not the same as controlling the sun but just to give us the ability to convert sunrays into light.

The tempest here takes place in the mind of man and not beyond that.
