Whoa! For a moment I thought I'd entered Humor, then realized I was still in BC&H. Uh, can we return to the more scholarly nature of this forum, to which I have become accustomed?

Seriously, though, do they give you a reason?
They probably have a hard time dealing with the fact that if Jesus looked
like that, he'd get "profiled" by airport security in a heartbeat....

For the record, it isn't just an assumption that he looked like a normal Jew of the period, as there's a verse in Isiah which says he has nothing special about him, appearance wise, and this was said to have been one of the prophesies he fulfilled.

How is that not "just an assumption" based on other assumptions?

Please specify the verse in Isaiah as well as where it "was said" that Jesus fulfilled it.

Isaiah 53:2 "For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him."

All of Isaiah 53 is considered by Christians to refer to Jesus. It's known as the "suffering servant" passage, and talks about how he loves us, but we killed him, and he suffers a lot for us. Verses 4 and 5 are especially clear on this: "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Now, since I don't believe in prophesy, I doubt that Isaiah was actually refering to Jesus, but it definitely does fit.

[edit]Found it. Acts of the Apostles, 8:32-35
Quote:
he passage of the prophet that he was reading was this:

He was led as a sheep to slaughter.
As a lamb before the one shearing it is silent.
So he does not open his mouth.
In humiliation his judgment was taken away.
Who shall tell his story?
For his life is removed from the earth. (Isaiah 53:7-8)

Then the eunuch asked Philip: Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this: of himself or of someone else? And Philip opened his mouth and beginning from this writing he taught him about Jesus.
Philip is clearly, in this passage, claiming that Jesus fulfilled Isaiah 53. It is, therefore, irrelevant that Isaiah did not intentionally refer to Jesus, as all I'm pointing out was that Jesus' followers said that a passage which says he's normal looking applies to him, ergo he was normal looking.

Which makes me wonder where did the Europeon version of Jesus image come from? The church or Constantine?

Vinnie is correct. I've seen plastic manger scenes for sale that include a baby Jesus with blond hair and blue eyes.
