Default Sci-fi story with gods, pagan and christian

Recently I read about a sci-fi book that had the gods appearing as characters. They included all the pagan ones, and also Buddha and Christ. From memory, they all meet up on some planet and fight it out.

Can anyone recall the name of the book and the author? (I know about CS Lewis's sci-fi stories. This was much more recent).

I don't know about that, but the Incarnations of Immortality series includes a variety of personified gods and elements.

Not much help probably, but maybe we can get a general discussion going.

I love the idea of gods or personified elements in fantasy books. That's the best place for them.

I think DC comics did something like this sans Christ, but with the Hindu pantheon vs the Greek. I haven't read it personally, but it does seem interesting. Like football lineups, which pantheon would come out on top?

This is a bit like Roger Zelazny's "Lord of Light", where the crew of a wrecked spaceship find themselves with special powers and take on the roles of Hindu gods.

I thought you were talking about the bible, because that is exactly what it is. A sci-fi book for goat herders and camel drivers.

I love Clarke 9 billion names of God. That punchline!

Yes, I think that's the one! The synopsis in Wiki sounds like the story I heard about. Thanks for that, Roger!
