Since you believe that the Bible is inerrant, please tell me how long the Israelites sojourned in Egypt. The topic is being discussed in this thread. Exodus 12:40-41 says this:

Quote:
40 The time that the Israelites had lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years. 41 At the end of four hundred thirty years, on that very day, all the companies of Yahweh went out from the land of Egypt.
Do you agree with these verses? If I show you other information which conflicts with them, would you consider the Bible to be errant?

A book full of: perversion sold as morality, bloodletting commanded by a psychotic deity, manipulation, deceit, and threats of punishment for nonbelief that has retarded Western Civilization for over a millennium. The book should be x-rated and not be made available to children under the age of 18.

Sounds like an old Michael Jackson dvd.

Sad is putting it too mildly. Evil and dangerous is more like it.

Now then, since I know Visionary thinks that the Bible is wonderful fact, I'm going to ask why he thinks that. Visionary, what evidence outside your own mind leads you to believe anything the book says? Your alleged visions don't count, you admit to being diagnosed with a mental illness so your subjective experiences mean even less to us than they would otherwise.

If one considers that people claimed to be in communication with a deity in the bible and even today and do so with conviction and a straight face, then Visonary is in good company. Anyone claiming such powers should be safely housed in an institution where they will not be a danger either to themselves or to others.

The minister of the Saddleback Church in Southern California (a Mr. Webber I think) that recently debated our would-be hero Sam Harris claims to speak to god daily. Poor Sam never asked what these little talks are about, but someone who makes such public statements should be held to account. Sam is a bit of a mystic himself, so one can't expect much from him, but perhaps others can step into the breach.

V7, which version are you talking about? The Catholic bible or the Protestant bible? Are 1st and 2nd Maccabees, Tobit, and Baruch books that are part of this "bible" that you're asking about?

I think the Bible in any version is mostly just ancient myths. There is a moderate amount of Jewish history mixed in, though only in the bits after the time of Solomon. Everything before that is definitely mythology--especially the tales about the Exodus, which never happened.

I think the NT is largely hagiography, with a historical core of sayings of and about Jesus. The Revelation of St. John is nothing but the ravings of a madman.
There is no universal bible.

Many tyrants have believed as you do. They burned non-believers at the stake, organized pogroms and holocausts, Crusades and Inquistions, retarded science and plunged Europe into the Dark Ages. If I were you, and I'm glad that I'm not, I'd never admit to being a Christian. Jesus espoused the same. See Luke 19:27. That is, if you think that there really was a Jesus instead of someone doing ghost (holy or otherwise) writing for a mythological legend.

Verify some for me that are relevant and central to the theme of this fiction.
