Default If The Ark Can't Be Recreated, then.....

.....religious people are wrong, obviously.

But if the Bible is true, then a seaworthy Ark should be recreatable.

In fact, it's really hard to understand why there isn't a yearly building of an ark, just to show the unbelievers.

But the Ark is about a hundreed feet (thirty meters) longer than any wooden ship you can make - even with plywood.

Simple challenge: a wood boat 450 feet long or whatever.

Make it or shut up.

Thumbs up

I agree. I've often made the same argument myself.

But the Ark needs to be made of Gopher wood and the right brand of pitch. If it is done with anything else, it will sink, as it does not have the God brand name or the product placement correct.

Simple is it not?

I've thought about this question myself -- with all the historic voyages that various people have re-enacted, why hasn't anyone tried to re-enact even a crude approximation of the Noah's-Ark voyage?

St. Brendan
Leif Ericsson
Zheng He (Treasure Fleets)
Christopher Columbus
Ferdinand Magellan
The Pilgrims (Mayflower)
Captain James Cook
Lewis and Clark

But no Noah's Ark.

It has been replaced by the Advent Wreath in Catholicism and when you recognize the white candle as your very own Baptism candle it is time to set sail. Maybe you have noticed that the white candle there is a Catholic trade mark so please built your own or shut up.

Yup. that'll show those Shintos!

Seriously, in a forum where arguments are so carefully crafted and reason and debating skills are so highly prized, we should probably be a lot more careful with language.

So, "If The Ark Can't Be Recreated, then literalist christian people are wrong, obviously." Because it won't prove shit about Hinduism or the average Quaker.

Oh ye of little faith.

Dutchman builds modern Noah's Ark

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4853890.stm

Dutchman Johan Huibers is building a working replica of Noah's Ark as a testament to his Christian faith. The 47-year-old from Schagen, 45km (30 miles) north of Amsterdam, plans to set sail in September through the interior waters of the Netherlands.
Johan's Ark is a fifth of the size of Noah's and will carry farmyard animals.

Could we see a show of hands of all those who would suddenly declare their faith in God if and when such an ark is made? I do not see how an operable ark would prove anything.

Thanks,

In order to convince us that "I have a motorbike and I rode it to the moooooooon", you must first demonstrate that you have a motorbike. This, in itself, is insufficient to make your point. You cannot, however, make your point without it.

If the ark is impossible, there can not have been a literal Genesis. If the ark is possible, creationists still have a billion or so other impossibilities to resolve. Which is a lot, but not quite as much as a billion and one.
