Israel, 1948
Hi all,
the most of you may know, that many fundamentalists claim that the foundation of the state israel in 1948 was prophecied in the bible. Basically, I want to know, what you guys think about that claim. Greetings from Heidelberg. |

Greetings. You are, you know, posting at the Internet Infidels Discussion Forum. I gather the infidels around here don't think much about any claim made within the pages of the canon. I also gather that the more reasonable ones would say that whatever oracle was written back then applied to a specific situation and context, and that it cannot be punted over the original audience into the future (like 1948). This would be my opinion too, as I think the general state of affairs regarding the understanding of the prophetic literature among the average evangelical is pathetic.

What generally happens is that some fundie takes verses that originally referred to the re-emergence of the Kingdom of Israel after the Babylonian captivity, and tries to pretend that the author was actually referring to the creation of the modern republic of Israel.
