NT Wright on getting a new body
http://www.ntwrightpage.com/sermons/...Who_Serves.htm
'Then we won’t need that shocking and dangerous nonsense about taking up the cross; and we won’t need to bother about the embarrassing and unbelievable assertion that he rose again from the dead. After all, if this world is really the wicked place we perceive it to be, who wants a new body?' If there really is a new body, then why would Christians have been refuted by producing the old body, still languishing in the ground? Christians normally tie themselves into knots trying to reconcile Paul's view that we get a new body, with the Gospels view that the resurrected body was made of flesh and bone and still had wounds - it was the old body. See http://www.xenos.org/ct_outln/bodies.htm which says '...it was a real body with "flesh and bones" ... Because Adam's body is made of earthy materials, those who descend from him also receive earthy bodies ... Because Jesus' resurrected body is made of heavenly materials, those who descend from him receive heavenly bodies' Flesh and bones are heavenly materials! How eloquently Christian apologists demonstrate the gulf between Paul and the Gospels. |
