Old Testament vs New
I often hear christians talk about the new testament as if it absolved them from the Jewish law. And that none of the horrible things back then apply to them because of Jesus.
What scripture frees Christians from OT law? And in what ways are they bound to it? It seems like they use the OT when it's convenient and will dismiss it when it's absurdity becomes apparent. |

Some early non-Jewish Christians regarded themselves as followers of Jesus and did not regard the hebrew criptures as reklebvant to them. Some ven beilived that the OT was wrong and should be ignored.
The idea that the Christ-event freed Christians from obedience to the Hebrew Law is worked up mostly by S.Paul in his letters. But when you consider that the hebrew law applied to Jews and that the church included it inthe Bible chiefly to make sense fo the New testament, since the latter is closely based on the Old and refers to it constantly. It is not the New Testament itself that absolves Christians from the Law, many think they were never under it, although of course, Jewish christian needed to understand that Jesus had 're-formed' or restored Israel. |
