Default Useless Knowledge -- Introduction post

Hello Everyone,
I am an atheist - probably a hardcode atheist with strong anti-organized religion in the mix. I lived in the NorthEast in the USA for most of my life -moved to the SouthEast and found that integration in southern culture would require me to not be an atheist - and frankly not have skin as dark as it is (I'm half Asian from the Indian Subcontinent).
There is a website that allows open posting of articles called Useless Knowledge. A number of atheists write on the site - as well as a large number of high article volume conservative Christians. Many sites regard Useless Knowledge as a conservative website, but good articles that are not religious right oriented are printed there.
The site has writers like Ken Hughes, Michael John McCrae, Skip Toomaloo and Tracey Stevens that I feel sure any number of people writing on this sites IIDB could refute easily on a number of topics - most certainly including religion. Hell, I'm sure some of you would refute things I've put up at Useless-Knowledge - and that is a good thing.
The editor at Useless-Knowledge prints articles on a basis that they be good expressions of your point of view, or at least that is what I have found.
I think a larger representation in a context that allows people from every side to write will result in at least the most intelligent articles to rise to the top and statements using reason and atheists and freethinkers in general won't be pummelled in to the ground constantly by an arsenel of religious right - as is the case in the present.
I do have an investment at useless-knowledge - in that I have written over 40 articles and 50,000 words on the site - and that's all. There are a few other atheists that post on the site - when something just totally off the wall is said by some of the folks there. It was how I got started with my first article on the site.
Anyway, the site is www.useless-knowledge.com . Frederick Smith posts on the site and I've found that he's a secular humanist who likes to present the opposing view to some of the more religious on the site. Some people's writing, like Skip Toomaloo (most certaily a pseudonym) write things that I can't even read anymore.
Perhaps I don't have enough similarity to my background to even communicate with the person. Posting is done by e-mail and I think that freethinkers deserve more of a voice at the site.
It is also part of my personal writing strategy at Useless Knowledge to write articles that are not specifically about atheism - trying to show that I'm not just some paper target, but a human being with interests and similarities to other humans. I have grave concerns that the dehumanization of atheists could result in a removal of atheists as the next great evil of the world.
As I previously indicated on this board - I'm working on an article about the Philadelphia Religious riots in 1844. It is a topic that few people in the current era are aware of that shows the poor behavior that results when relgion is incorporate as a part of government. I think this topic has particular bearing on the Intelligent Design debates that are in our present world. Here is hoping to no knew riots on the basis of religion in school!
Please do not view this as SPAM. It is merely intended to attract more freethinker writers to a public forum where we are underrepresented and may be viewed as the 'village atheist' as people once viewed the 'village drunk'.
Thanks,
Old Ygg/ Alex

And if you edited that post, converting them to {url=www.url.com}caption{/url} format (using square brackets instead of curlies), we'd even be able to click on them.

Regardless... welcome to iidb!

Default Thanks

Thanks for booting this message up and fixing my links and for the welcome. I'm a programmer and have the links stored in a spreadsheet with anchors already set up. Too bad the HTML didn't get integrated with the BB message.

Anyway, it was fun finding my message and it is interesting to note that my spreadsheet was missing my first article.

Here is my first article from that site:
In Regard to Skip and Jack

This was in response to an original article by Jack Lepiarz - who is currently a high school student.
Where Does God Come From?

Basically, Jack the young atheist that he is - asked the question - if everything comes from something - then where did God come from.

Skip Toomaloo - who appears to be a resident preacher that writes on the site wrote two articles in response first to Jack and then to my article.

Jack - Your question does not apply to God

And Authority [The True God]

Now, after reading content on this site - I feel sure that many of you could have dealt with this in a better manner than I did. More input from freethinkers as stated in my first post - would be welcome.

Thanks,
Old Ygg/Alex

Welcome OldYgg

Geez, an atheist programmer. I don't think we have any of those on IIDB.

Default Lol

Yeah, it does seem to be a profession infested with atheists. I have many atheist friends that are programmers.
