JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2008: Expressions of interest
JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2008: Expressions of interest
Australian representation on IIDB BC&H discussion forum suggests that it is not impossible that Australians may offer unique and valuable contributions in this field. It is therefore here proposed that a public forum and/or meeting be coordinated at some future time (perhaps 2008) at which researchers in Australia at that time might participate, and present their ideas in person. This is a general post to record expressions of interest towards the possibility of hosting a quasi-academic forum for the purpose of discussions concerning the place of Jesus, and the place and the chronology of "early Christian literature" in fields of Biblical History, and Ancient History. The venue, the scope and the scale of the forum will remain open until the extent of participation can be gauged. Sydney and/or its immediate hinterlands will be the default location. Participation is envisaged in the following strands: 1) Preparation and presentation of papers 2) Editorship and publication of preceedings 4) Technical expertise in subject matter categories 5) Other, including project administration and management. The phases of this project appear to be: Phase (1): Expressions of Interest Phase (2): Fixing Venue: Call for Papers This post is a request for expressions of interest. Phase (1): Estimating the numbers (if any) JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2008 Please respond either here in this thread or via Private Message, as required. Likewise, if it's in Melbourne than I would almost certainly go. If it's in Sydney I may still go.

I like the idea of the meeting, though personally I cannot afford to attend such a meeting being very faraway. If you please don't mind; the title of the thread should be without the word "down". I think it is not infringement on your free will. A little change would do. I respect you viewpoint. I love Jesus and Mary, please. Thanks and regards I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim |

Hmm, maybe the term "Down Under" is not widely known in the Indian subcontinent.

No. This shall not be a Kangaroo court.
All viewpoints will be tolerated as equal. All contributors will have an equal part. For international readers Jesus DOWN-UNDER simply means "Discussions about the NT in Australia". The "Down Under" business need not be conflated with the underworld. FWIW, I will advertise the idea elsewhere and seek some corporate sponsorship so that any costs might be so defrayed. Best wishes, Pete Brown |

You know...any of you would be better served, if the purpose is (as stated) to contribute to the field, actually to attend the Annual Meeting of the SBL (in Boston this year) or the International Congress, held this year in Auckland, or another academic conference (not "quasi-academic"). At no risk of hyperbole, a meeting organized as described above will not contribute to the field, except in the case that a paper from it was later submitted to the journals or conferences in which the people in the field already participate.
