Which to use?
Is there a place where I can find most of the more authentic Biblical Greek manuscripts online? After a couple of these posts here, I wanted to do a translation of the New Testament, little by little, starting with Matthew. Well, of course, I got to about 1:18 (this was all just a couple of minutes ago) and noticed that, well, see for yourself:

OK, to make it easier - Textus Receptus or Codex Vaticanus / Codex Sinaiticus

cweb, this is the million $$$ question! If you knew the answer to this, you'll be the Knight in Shining Armour who'll finally solve the Big Puzzle of NT textual criticism! (Of course, myself, I'll say that the Byz text/Textus Receptus is generally better than the Vaticanus or the Sinaiticus, but that's just my own personal opinion.) For this particular verse of Mt 1:18, the differences are not that great, though... While W&H put /ihsou = Jesus/ into parentheses (which meant "uncertain"), this word is no longer so parenthesised in Nestle/Aland. Now, the reason why W&H put 'ihsou' into parentheses is because numerous manuscripts lack 'ihsou' in this verse. And yet, the Alexandrian Vaticanus manuscript (abbreviated as B) has _only_ 'ihsou' here (lacking 'Christ'). Stephanos and Scrivener are identical here. Other than that, the only other difference between the Byz and the Alex manuscripts in this verse is a minor difference in the spelling on the word gennhsis/genesis, and the added /gar/ in the Byz. Nothing special... Cheers, Yuri. |

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some transcribed manuscripts online, something I can look at?
