Ezekiel 20:24-26 implies YHWH punishes by endorsing flaming infant sacrifice

"Because they {the Israelites} had not observed My ordinances, but had rejected My statutes and had profaned My sabbaths, and their eyes were on the idols of their fathers,
I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live;
and I polluted them because of their gifts, in that they caused all their firstborn to pass through the fire so that I might make them desolate, in order that they might know that I am YHWH."

But Jeremiah 19:4-9 says the opposite, absolving YHWH of immolation responsibility - but then...

"Because they {the Israelites} have forsaken Me and have made this an alien place and have burned sacrifices in it to other gods, that neither they nor their forefathers nor the kings of Judah had ever known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever enter My mind;
"therefore, behold, days are coming," declares YHWH, "when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the valley of Ben-hinnom, but rather the valley of Slaughter. I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life; and I will give over their carcasses as food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth.
"I will also make this city a desolation and an object of hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its disasters.
"I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them."

Ezekial got that wrong, t'weren't My responsibility. My People's familial cannibalism before becoming carcasses is the bit I'll cop to.

I don't think anyone has yet mentioned PSALM verses 8 and 9. "O daughter of Babylon you devastator! Happy shall he be who requites you for what you have done to us. HAPPY SHALL HE BE WHO TAKES YOUR LITTLE ONES AND DASHES THEM AGAINST THE ROCK!"

Bible commentators say that this was common practice in warfare at the time, and that the Psalmist was just expressing his desire of like for like. Others try to mute the nastiness by saying that this was just a conventional curse, and in any event the Psalms contain reflect the whole gamut of human emotion. Maybe so, but having read all the Psalms it strikes me that the sentiment that God will judge the Psalmists wicked enemies is all pervasive. And it must be remembered too that these Psalms were not just for private use, but primarily formed part of jewish liturgical practice.
