Default Was the historical Jesus a "Big Lie"?

From the WIKI entry for Big Lie:

Well before Hitler, Mussolini had made himself master of the big lie and was especially adept at such bold oxymorons as “democratic dictators,” an expression ...
The link to ancient history is provided by Momigliano in his (1987) book ON PAGANS, JEWS, and CHRISTIANS (or via: amazon.co.uk), in Chapter 6 .... "How Roman Emperors became Gods" as follows ....

As a propaganda technique using the high technology of the codex, could Constantine have authorized/sponsored/commissioned a series of Greek textual publications related to an historical Jesus, who supposedly "appeared in the flesh" 300 years before Nicaea, as a "Big Lie"? If so, the docetists may have had a valid argument for their so-called heresy.

I am tempted to move this to E. It is an abuse of this forum.

Once again you are just posing a question. What data would answer your question? How would you expect to have a serious discussion about this?

What if you, Pete, are a secret Christian agent trying to make skepticism look bad?

Would it not be more likely that Constantine thought that he could describe is empire as Christian? Did he not burst into laughter when some displaced Jew first proposed the idea? Is 'Christendom' not a farcical concept? Is Trinitarianism for sane people? Is transubstantiation not a tongue-in-cheek cheat of 'the bloody plebs'?

If Jesus did not actually live on this earth, an awful lot of people (or a lot of awful people) have made complete gibbering morons of themselves for no good reason.

And among those so deceived would be some of the brightest lights humanity has produced, whereas only the anti-Jewish conspiracy theorists would have been right all along.

I can see that this thread is not going to generate any sort of serious discussion, only in part because so many have mountainman on ignore and cannot ever see this thread.

It violates the rules of this forum for overworn topics.

It immediately invokes Godwin's law.

It will be locked for review and possibly moved.
