Interestingly, the Masoretic, Samaritan, and LXX versions offer different numbers for the ages of the patriarchs leading up to the flood.

Wenham has an excursus on the topic in his WBC tome on Genesis. A solution that looks quite reasonable to me (and is probably dismissed a little too quickly by Wenham) is that the original age list had at least one patriarch (possibly more) surviving the flood, and all three of our extant versions took different steps to get him (or them) to die by the time of the flood (in the Masoretic, Methuselah dies in the very year of the flood).

I think it was Klein (this is a Google Books link) who first made this suggestion.
