No Seleucids or Mamlukes either. And "European Colonialism" is a bit too oversimplified for my tastes, since we're talking about independent nations with often different styles of colonial rule (in many cases the same power governed separate territories in completely different manners).

Don't forget the Akkadians, Old Babylonians, Parthians, Medes, and Lydians. The Hittite Empire fell by 1180, and the Egyptians had withdrawn to just Egypt by 1130. Israel didn't rise until about 1020, and in reality never reached the Euphrates; its northern border should probably be moved down to its present northern border. The Assyrians underwent several periods of waxing and waning between 1115 and 745, before becoming a permanant presence during the reign of Tiglath-pileser III (745-727).
